Monteith Construction’s new Raleigh office location is awesome!
While construction is ongoing at 122 Glenwood, the 3rd floor office space was completed earlier this year. Monteith relocated from their previous home on Morgan St to their newly renovated, historic Glenwood space.
Things are really heating up on Morgan Street since Wolfe & Porter opened earlier this year!
Some of you may remember 905 W. Morgan St as the dive bar Drink Drank Drunk and Atomic Salon; you also might recall the building was completely divided between the bar, the salon and the basement below.
In the fall of 2023 the owners of Heights House bestowed a unique honor upon the individuals and businesses who supported their vision and helped make Heights House the beauty it is today. They did so by crafting a menu that features 6 signature cocktails dedicated to and named after those who played an integral role in the design of Heights House. What’s more is they did it so thoughtfully; with each cocktail truly embracing the essence of its namesake.

Between local favorites Trophy Brewing and Irregardless, sits a trio of houses located just as the road begins to bend towards Hillsborough St. In 2022 these buildings were purchased with a vision of bringing new life and purpose to the structures (which had fallen into a bit of disrepair), and a project aptly named “The Bend” was born.
On Monday in observance of MLK Day of Service we returned to Alliance Medical Ministry to volunteer in their garden. We were thrilled they were able to host us for the 2nd year in a row, and this year we even had some team member’s kiddos in tow to amplify our support!
Today David presented at the Historic Tax Credit Workshop in Albemarle, NC. This marked his 25th workshop presentation in towns across our state - sharing information and guidance on utilizing historic tax credits to encourage the rehabilitation of historic downtown buildings.

Sir Walter Raleigh Award
Death and Taxes has been awarded a Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Community Appearance in Historic Preservation and Rehabilitation. The Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Community Appearance recognizes significant contributions to the character, environment and appearance of our city. Since 1983 over 200 projects have been recognized by the City of Raleigh, and we are pleased to be among the honorees of this award.
Now Open: The Durham Hotel
The Durham Hotel, located in the former Home Savings Bank building, began taking reservations in mid-July. The building was constructed in 1968 and its unique form is easily recognizable in the Durham landscape. While the iconic stair towers offer slivered views of downtown, the rooftop deck provides a sweeping vista with miles of scenery.
New Tenant for Nehi!
KnowledgeTree, a software company in Raleigh, has moved into the Nehi building. The former bottling company is bright and open inside, providing the perfect setting for a collaborative tech company.
NC Main Street Conference
The City of Goldsboro will host the NC Main Street Conference in 2016. This annual event is an opportunity for communities across the state to join together in recognition of accomplishments and opportunities for future improvement. Maurer Architecture is proud to be active with the NC Main Street organization, and we look forward to next years event.
Jeffers, Mann and Artman, PA
Jeffers, Mann & Artman Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine will offer comprehensive pediatric care for children of all ages from their new Holly Springs facility. The new location will open in late 2015, and is located at 604 Avent Ferry Road.
National Rosenwald Schools Conference 2015
Last week David and Laurie had the pleasure of presenting at the National Rosenwald Schools Conference in Durham. The presentation, titled "Restoring Your Rosenwald School: A Roadmap to Success," outlined the process of restoration from start to finish.

Carolina Brewing Company Taproom
The taproom renovation at Carolina Brewing is underway. The renovation involves a new enlarged bar and seating area with views out to a new patio.
Office Team-Build
Yesterday our office had our first ever team-build with Habitat for Humanity Orange County. We enjoyed the sunshine and had a great time getting to know the Habitat crew in Efland.

The new Withrow & Terranova building is coming along nicely! The building features an array of solar panels. . .

This 3-story, 6,800 square foot house is constructed of concrete panels with a stucco finish.
Latest at Trophy Brewing
Maurer Architecture began working with the Trophy Brewing team in 2014 to design a space which will allow for an increased brewing capacity, and will eventually include a full-service taproom.
Welcome, Kimberly!
Last week Maurer Architecture welcomed the newest member of our team, Kimberley Mott. Kimberley graduated from UNC-Greensboro in May 2015 with a degree in Interior Architecture.
