We recently celebrated 25 years of business at the Maurer office with wonderful friends, clients and colleagues from near and far. And of course, no party would be complete without the delicious beer from local breweries we’ve designed (Trophy, Brewery Bhavana, Resident Culture, and White Street) and the always tasty food from Empire Eats. It was a festive event and reminded us of the privilege it has been to serve and work alongside so many great individuals in the city of Raleigh and across the state of North Carolina. We look forward to the next 25 years!

Montfort Hall hosted the Boylan Heights Neighborhood Fall Festival on Sunday and it was a great success! Among other exciting events, tours of the property were given by the owners Sarah and Jeff Shepherd along with neighbor/architect David Maurer! For the first time in a long time, the grounds of Montfort Hall were filled with people from the community and we are honored to be a part of this special project.

The foundation for Raleigh's Lustron House is complete! We were on site early this week to inspect the work before the house lowering next week. Through the hard work of the Raleigh Historic Development Commission and Preservation NC, the Lustron House will soon be permanently set down in Southeast Raleigh!

Join the AIA Triangle on November 15 for the upcoming lecture and panel discussion, Historic Preservation 201: Partners in Preservation. You will have the opportunity to listen to an engaging lecture and discussion panel, in addition to viewing six historic preservation sights in Raleigh. Several Maurer projects will be featured and a few team members will also be participating in the panel discussion. This is going to be a great event and we are excited to be participating!

Construction is underway at the new Howard Perry & Walston office in downtown Goldsboro! The roof for this historic structure had completely collapsed into this space over a year ago. Now that the old roof has been removed, construction has begun for a new one! The project completion date is projected for February 2019.

This historic building, built in 1885, now houses four apartments above a pharmacy and Mulberry Market Place.

The Goldsboro Fire Station is almost done! Tenants are putting their final touches in the space for the ribbon cutting on Thursday, October 4. Built in 1939, this redbrick firehouse remains "the most outstanding Art Deco building in Goldsboro." The firehouse now has a crossfit gym and available tenant space on the first floor, and a photography studio and wedding venue on the second floor.

Located in Historic Downtown Goldsboro, this rustic restaurant has a wine bar and restuarant on the first floor with a bar/lounge on the second floor. The entire restaurant features wood details and a large mural, all original to the historic structure. If you’re in the Goldsboro area, stop by!

The Gertrude S. Carraway Award of Merit will be given to Todd's Building, 21 S. Front St. (which now houses Next Glass HQ) and James Goodnight, for his genuine commitment and significant participation in historic preservation across the state! We are proud to be a partner in preservation and look forward to celebrating this honor at PNC's Annual Conference in Wrightsville Beach/Wilmington this fall!

Two Maurer projects were featured in the most recent newsletter from North Carolina Historic Preservation Office. Check out the excerpts below and read more about project details here and here. 

Historic landmark plaques have been installed at two of Raleigh's registered historic buildings. We are proud to have been part of the restoration of Fisher's Bakery & Sandwich Company building and the HJ Brown Coffin House. Below are descriptions of the buildings from the Raleigh Historic Development Commission: 

This former post office and government office building has now come to life as a downtown pizzeria in Sanford. The front entrance, previously the public side of the post office, is now a gelato counter and seating area. The back portion of the building, which served as the post office service space and private offices, has become the restaurant kitchen, bar and seating area. 

The Benchwarmers tenant space is under construction in the Transfer Co. Food Hall. 

There is a large wood-burning oven that will be visible from the seating area. The kitchen is open to the surrounding space so the whole process, from start to finish, will be visible to customers. We can't wait to see the space come to life! 

The Norris House is now open for hosting private special events. We are excited to see how this beautifully restored house will contribute to the historic downtown area. 

We are thrilled to announce our collaboration on the restoration of one of Raleigh's finest historic landmarks: Montfort Hall, in Boylan Heights. The historic mansion, built in 1858, will be transformed into a boutique inn and event space, pending approved rezoning from the city. Another successful project with Rufty Peedin has been completed.  The new Nest Realty location in Cary is now open for business.  This first-time interior completion will be a great addition to the quickly growing Village Square at Amberly.

Our team member, Meredith recently visited Henderson, NC and toured the historic Henderson High School, built in 1935. Now that students have moved to a new building, discussion is being held for the best re-use of this historic space. She was invited for a preliminary walk through with a few…
